Skill Focus: Anchor Building

Our Focus Courses are designed to improve and hone your technical skill set by concentrating on one topic at a time.  Typically shorter in length than our Curriculum courses, these courses are a great way to brush up on a particular skill, or dial in your education where you feel you need it most.

Price:   $100+hst

Duration: 6 Hours

Misty Forest

Who should take this course?

This 6 hour refresher course is designed for climbers who have already learned the concepts of anchor building but feel like they are a bit out of practice. Climbers who may not have climbed in a little while, or those who feel that they are not able to get out consistently enough to reinforce their knowledge would benefit from this course.

What will you learn?

Participants will find themselves reviewing the basics concepts of anchor building and gain valuable hands on practice with anchor construction methods.  With discussions on gear, knots, physics, load distribution and more, this course is a great opportunity to re-acquaint yourself with one of the most fundamental skills in roped climbing.

While this course does not cover the placement or use of traditional gear, any students that already possess such skill will be met with the opportunity to practice and hone their traditional gear anchors.

Prerequisites

A GG 101 Intro To Outdoor climbing course or above.  Participants should be familiar (even if you're a lil rusty) with basic anchor building principles and an understanding of climbing gear.

Time / Location

This course runs from 8am to 2pm at our Chebucto Head location. (In order to provide the best instruction possible, we may on occasion choose a different start time and location depending on weather or other concerns).
