Who should take this course?

This 1-day workshop is great for any beginning climber looking to try rappelling for the first time, or for those more experienced climbers looking to increase their experience and knowledge.

What will you learn?

As the saying goes: "Once you've reached the top, you're only half-way there." Thats because in rock climbing, a successful climb means getting up, AND back down, without harm.  Rappelling is an essential skill for any aspiring climber.  Knowing what methods to use and when to use them is the name of the game.

This course is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation of how to employ a basic rappel.  It also includes an understanding of the finer nuances and concerns with regards to rappelling, and an awareness of what to avoid.  From gear/system preparation, to setting up the rappel, employing a backup, and descending, all steps are covered in great detail while participants gain hands on experience.

Additionally, this course is not just for novices.  Participants who arrive with a greater degree of experience and knowledge will find themselves pushing things further.  Topics such as rappelling with a tagline, tandem rappels, improvised gear, and more are on the list for those that are ready.

Prerequisites

Participants should be comfortable with the basics of belaying and anchor building.
